The Sire & QEII

My partner at work Farissa is leaving Intel to relocate to KL so the bunch of us decided to throw her a farewell party and at the same time, find excuse for some partying ourselves on Nov 15th. Or should I say we were actually more itchy for the partying piece which is why we suggested a Saturday instead of a working day :) And we are all so game for partying that we gave the party a BLACK theme.... everyone must come dressed in black or risked being penalized!


We headed to a lovely joint at the Kings Street called The Sire Museum Restaurant. The place used to be the home of Yeap Chor Ee and the interior is adorned with exquisite furniture pieces and bygone pictures of the Yeap's family. We arrived shortly before 7pm in all our oh so sexy BLACK attires and proceeded to order food even before some of our friends arrive, I guess it's because we are all very hungry!! Haha

I took the risk to order the Black Angus Ribeye Steak (airflown) which cost a whopping RM105 per plate!!!! Sadly, it was not up to my expectation... the steak had a buttery taste to it and nothing more.. that's all I've got for 100 plus. Tahira actually recommended that I check out The Grill at Rasa Sayang if I am one for steaks, and she asked that I go for the Queens Cut. Psstt... I am actually dropping hints to Joe that I'd like to check out The Grill for our coming ROM Anniversary this December. Not sure whether this bloke husband of mine is sensitive enough to pick up the hints.... nvm....... will try harder :)

We finished dinner at around 9pm plus and a bunch of us, the party kakis decided to head to QEII for drinks and chill out! Naomi, Farissa and Guat Choo decided not to join us though.... as they've got their own plans for the night already....

So off we went to QEII. The place was kinda empty when we arrived, perhaps it's because the night is still young...... and the crowd have yet to trickle in. We chosed a nice spot and settled ourselves..... we ordered drinks, mainly alcoholic but Joe and I decided to go against norm and we ordered English Tea and Mint Tea instead at a place like QEII... hahahaaaaa.... I know we are like uncle and aunty.... maybe we are.... cos we are both in our 30s already!

Mat was the darling of the night as he ordered Pizza for all of us...... both variants are kinda special... one spicy pizza and the other comes with Pear fruit..... unique! Even though everybody claimed to be so full with dinner, we all took a bite to the pizza as they are so tempting with the gooeey cheezy cheese!!!

We left the place before midnight as we needed to cross the bridge before it closes for the Penang Bridge Run at 2am. It was truly an amazing night for me and Joe as we had not been to a clubbing scene for some time. Nice............

Jason & Shirlyn ROM (27 Sept 2008) - delayed post

My brother Jason finally registered his marriage with Shirlyn on his birthday 27th September 2008! The event took place at the Butterworth Buddhist Association......... quite different from mine as part of the ceremony requires the couple to pray in front of Buddha.

Pictures speaks louder than words..... so here goes................

Their wedding reception will be on 27th December 2008 and the traditional tea ceremony will be on the following morning on 28th December 2008. Lots of preparation will be coming soon..... and all of us shall be busy............ and happy!

KL on the way back...... (4th Oct 2008)

On 4th Oct, Joe, mum in law, Ken and me headed back to Penang leaving dad in law at the estate..... but no worries......he would be back for good before Deepavali as the estate had managed to hire a permanent manager at last.

We drop by KL on the way back and hopped into Duck King, a newly opened restaurant at Jaya3. Joe and I had actually been to the restaurant once in August 2008 together with Cheryl and Darryl's mum......... the food was very nice so we thought to ourselves that we need to go back again!

Sungai Lembing, Panching & Kuantan..............

On 3rd October, we continued on our road trip to Sungai Lembing, Panching and Kuantan. Panching in particular holds a very dear place in Joe's heart as he attended his kindy and Year One there. He was so excited to be back there after a whopping 24 years!

After Panching, we went visiting the neighbouring Sungai Lembing, a mining town...... didn't spend much time there as it was raining..... but I managed to visit the hanging bridge in that village.

We then proceeded to Kuantan, Pahang...... dad in law met up with one of his long time friend at one of the coffee shop while all of us treat ourselves to a hot pot of Bak Kut Teh. After lunch, we drop by Teluk Cempedak, a nice tourist beach front with souvenir shops and numerous fast food outlets. It was mum in law's turn to catch up with 2 of her friends there...... it was truly a fruitful trip for both my parents in law.

Before we leave Kuantan for the day, we drop by the newly opened East Coast Mall.... not bad..... can rival Penang malls or shall I say slightly better? Maybe..... in certain aspects.......

We went back to the estate that day feeling contented and accomplished as we have covered so many places!

On Terengganu.............

There was this very famous kopitiam called Hai Peng in the town of Kemaman. I was like...... how famous could it be right? Especially since it was smacked in a small town inside Terengganu but...... boy was I in for a shock when we dropped in for a breakfast on 2nd October. It was so full of people that you basically have folks standing by tables waiting for people to finish their food!

Dad in law recommended its Nasi Padang, Charcoal Toasted Bread and good 'ol coffee served in traditional cup and saucer...... hmmm..... the taste lived up to its reputation..... it was truly a place worth visiting.

After breakfast, we ascended to Awana Kijal Golf & Beach Resort...... quite a nice place for family outings where they have nice landscapes and cycling tracks by the beach. You feel so relaxed just by strolling along the sandy beaches.......

We only spent about an hour at Awana Kijal, afterwhich we continued with our journey to Kuala Terengganu passing by Petronas town, traditional kampung houses and more sandy beaches.

The journey along the Terengganu roads were fun and brought us back to basics.... as there were no large shopping malls, no Starbucks and no Coffee Bean! In compensation, we get to see beautiful kampung houses, simple folks, simple food and simple life............ it was indeed a simple but enriching holiday!
